養老　僕が藤森（照信）さんから聞いた話で一番面白かったのは、モンゴルのパオですね。あんなところでどうやってプライバシーを守るんだと聞いたら、モンゴルではパオの中が公共空間なんです、と。プライバシーは外にあるんですよ。

隈　それはアフリカのサバンナでも同じでした。土と動物の糞を固めた小さな小屋の中で、ものすごい数の人間が寝起きするわけ。それも、日本の感覚だと多くて７、８人という辺りだと思いますが、住んでいる人に聞くと３０人とか４０人とかと言う。どうしてそれが可能かというと、小屋の中こそ公共で、セックスも何も外でする、という感覚なんですね。屋外の生活がすごく豊かで、屋外の使い方に文化があるんです。
